Fallen Fields - Summer 1In this section...
In the summer term, we turn our attention to Fallen Fields, World War I and France. We focus on the geographical features of France and make comparisons with England. This topic allows us to study the events and many battles of WWI, with a particular focus on the Battle of the Somme. We offer the chance to attend a Residential in France. As well as providing us with the opportunity to practice our French reading and speaking skills, this also brings the learning to life in a wonderful unique setting. Furthermore, we use this experience to create some very emotional pieces of writing based on the topic.
All in all, this topic provides a great insight into a very significant time in our history and gives us the opportunity to learn about another culture not too far from us. We use our knowledge of this period in History to create a war-timed rationed meal in D&T.
By looking at this period in History, we use this to reflect in PSHE why it is 'Good to be Me'. We think about the feelings associated with embarrassment and also what stereotyping means. We learn about peer pressure and the potential impact of this.
Other learning this half term includes, Outdoor and Adventurous Activities (team work and solving problems) and Cricket. We also learn to Blog in Computing and create 3D sculpture in Art using modroc. In RE we focus on Islam and the mosque considering the importance of prayer to Muslims.
