Miss Kim Duffin is the Leader for Healthy Schools

In November 2016, we receieved the Healthy Schools Bronze Award in recognition of our provision regarding the encouragement of a healthy lifestyle. We are currently working towards our Silver Award and hope to have achieved this by the end of the academic year.

Healthy Schools is an Awards Programme that works with schools to improve children and young people’s well-being. At Barrow Hedges, we encourage children to make healthy food choices; we provide pupils with a number of opportunities (during the school day and extra-curricular) to be physically active; and, more widely, we raise an awareness of mental health, focusing on ensuring our pupils feel happy and safe in school. By raising an awareness of mental health as well as physical health, our pupils gain the motivation, confidence and self-respect to make healthy life choices.

The benefits go beyond health.  We know that when children are healthy and happy at school, they can and will achieve more.
