Scrumdiddly-umptious! - Spring 2In this section...
Our topic ‘Scrumdiddlyumptious’ begins full of excitement with ‘Year 3 does Bake Off’. All of the children in the year group take part in a baking competition with a ‘technical challenge’ as well as a ‘showstopper’ whilst the judges (the teachers) decide who the ‘star baker’ is. Throughout the topic, we read a range of recipes and the children also write their own as well as learn how to write a persuasive letter.
We have lots of fun during this topic, tasting a variety of foods and discovering how good food helps you grow and fit and strong! We learn how to use an atlas to locate countries where different fruits come from to see the journey they take to reach us in England. We also learn about the life of James Lind and how he discovered the magic healing powers of fruit, eradicating scurvy from the Royal Navy.
Towards the end of the topic, each child designs and brands their own scrumdiddlyumptious fruit salad before making it and working out how much profit they could make after persuading a supermarket to stock it!
